Festival Les Voix du Prieuré, France

June 17, 2010

In the last couple of days we were in France at the festival Les Voix du Prieuré, where we were invited by maestro Bernard Tétu who founded the festival eight years ago in a pleasant alpine village Le Bourget du Lac. The festival is dedicated to contemporary vocal music and we took part at it due to our performance of Nana Forte’s Libera me, that enraptured Mr. Tétu at the International competition of young conducters in Ljubljana Philharmony last March. Besides Nana’s work we presented Lebič, Schönberg, Poulenc, Schnittke, Gallus, Monteverdi and some arrangements of slovenian folk songs. We sang in the church of Saint Laurent in Le Bourget du Lac and in the cathedrale of Saint Jean in Lyon. We have experienced a wonderful response of the public at both concerts, who greeted our friend, the young composer Nana Forte with enthusiasm, too. We are happy that we have once again well presented Slovenian choral singing and our composers abroad. We believe that we and the French music lovers will keep the event in beautiful remembrance. We thank to the organizers of the festival and to the families in Le Bourget du Lac and in Lyon who welcomed us warmly in their homes.

Bravo, Slovenians!

May 18, 2010

Congratulations to the male choir Vokalna akademija Ljubljana and maestro Stojan Kuret for winning the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Varna, Bulgaria. It has now become a well-known fact that the Slovenian choirs are the one to beat at choir competitions, so having three such choirs in the finals, like Chamber Choir Ave and Šaleški Academic Choir, meant that it was all but easy for VAL to make this kind of achievement. At Ave, we are very pleased with our performance. So great was our devotion to music that even the explosion of a reflector in the Hall 1 of the Varna Festival Centre could not interfere with our singing.

We now look forward to some new challenges as we had plenty of time to further develop our plans during the long trip on the bus from Varna to Ljubljana, so stay up-to-date with us.

Welcome!

»Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate, and eternal form.«

These words, most often attributed to Plato, are a true hymn to Music. To Music which is beyond time and space and which is so untouchable but nevertheless real. To Music so desired.

One could name it differently and we could talk about it in billions different ways. But Chamber Choir Ave is not persuading with words. We convince with singing.

The Music, which is within us, is not our possession. It was given to us and we wish to present it forward. We discharge it into sounds, masterly elicited from us by our conductor Andraž, for you: come and listen to us so that we may enjoy together!

Urša Koce, president of the choir
